A few weeks ago, I visited Logos Hope, which is considered the largest floating book fair. It came to Cebu and stayed for a month, displaying its more than 5,000 books. Apart from the books, it also featured a mini museum, entertained the guests with stage plays, and provided refreshments through its cafe. On the way out, a free book per person was given. Between Justin Beiber and teaching strategies, I chose the book about the latter. Unfortunately, I haven’t uploaded yet the photos taken while there to back up my experiences. Since it’s a book fair and I’m a book hoarder and reader, I went home happy with five books.
I entered an online contest at sumthinblue.com, which gave away three copies of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. The contest asked participants the most courageous thing they have done.
Here is my complete answer: “The most courageous thing I did was to stand up for my man who underwent surgery and need to recover in the hospital for two weeks. This was two years ago, after we were held up and he was shot three times. I needed to be brave for him and for myself. He survived. Now, seven years into the relationship and we’re engaged to be married. Thank you for this giveaway and the chance to share the universal principle that without courage, how can we acquire other virtues?”

Thanks to the blogger, Blooey, she chose my answer. A week later, The Scorpio Races arrived at my office doorstep (and hardcover at that!). Apart from that, my review copy of First Date by Krista McGee from Booksneeze finally arrived after more than a month. I wouldn’t blame Booksneeze because really, customs in my place could be, uh, complicated. I was, and still am, happy to recieve my book, The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald, through Book Depository.
Of course, every now and then, I make occasional trips to the thrift bookshops. In the past five weeks or so, here are the treasures I’ve found.
Yep, that’s about it--me and my eclectic set of books. Have you read one or more of them? I would like to hear from you and listen to your thoughts. If you have already reviewed it, please don’t hesitate to provide the link so I can easily visit your blog in general and your post in particular. Thanks!

Wow, that's a lot of books. I've read a few by Laura Ingalls Wilder but that was a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteOooooh a floating book fair! I like the sound of that. Is that just at home or is it an international thing? It sounds really interesting! There's a few annual book fairs here in NZ, and proceeds go to different organizations. The first one I ever went to I came home with two huge plastic bags full of books. I got too carried away. I think I'm learning now though. ^_^ I normally just walk away with 2-3 when I go to a bookfair.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your books, and I'm looking forward to reading your reviews.
And just as a side note... grabe talaga yang mga magnanakaw na yan. Papatay ng tao para lang sa wallet at cellphone!? Nakakagalit! I'm sorry to hear you had and your fiance had to go through that.
The Story Of Anne Frank is really good! I loved that book!
