Happy National Children’s Book Day!

Today we celebrate the National Children’s Book Day!

Illustration by Aldy Aguirre (Image Credits)

This is to commemorate the publication of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s “The Monkey and Turtle” in the London-based Trubner’s Oriental Record in July 1889. It is said to be the first known published literary work for children by a Filipino (and Dr. Jose Rizal at that!).

Cheers to all Filipino children’s book writers and publishers! May you continue to do what you do and fuel the passion for reading among the Filipino children (and even adults).

    1. Yes, it is. You know, I'm happy to be book blogging because I got to be doubly aware of book related events in my country. Thanks for dropping by, Alex!

  2. About two years ago my wife and I went to an orphans home here in Manila. We took about 50 old books our daughters had out grown and we were able to give each child there a book. Many actually hugged the books they were so glad to have one.

    1. That's really sweet. Thank you, Mel, in behalf of those orphans. I'm sure many of them still kept the books with them.
