I am joining the Literary Blog Hop for the first time. The timing is perfect because October is the month I started book blogging, which means that since I officially started personal blogging in January 2011, this month is my FIRST year anniversary as a book blogger. Sometimes, I get amused calling myself a book blogger because I review more short stories than books!
For this Literary Blog Hop and for my first year anniversary as a book blogger, I will be giving out two books--The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. (Images taken from www.goodreads.com). The former is one my favorite classic stories, not just because of the universal story but by the memorable way it has touched (even changed the reading habits) of two friends who initially claimed they do not like to read, but now, after reading The Little Prince’s adventures, are reading more books than I do. The second book is the October book of the month of Cebu Book Club. Oh, what an imagination Verne has and how simply believable he writes!
So, how to win these two books? First, be sure that Book Depository delivers to your place. You can check out the list of countries here. Second, fill up the Rafflecopter below. The Literary Blog Hop will run from Oct. 27-31. I will only choose one winner for the two books via Rafflecopter. A winner will be declared on Nov. 1. The winner must provide me shipping address within 48 hours after I send him/her an email so that I can have the books delivered to his/her doorstep via Book Depository. Please note that the book covers above may not exactly be the ones the winner will receive.
Let me take this opportunity to thank Judith of www.leeswammes.wordpress.com for hosting the Literary Blog Hop. You can find more details here. Please hop on as well to other participants of the Literary Blog Hop (see below).
Thank you for hopping and good luck!

One of my favorite books is "Chess Story" by Stephan Zweig. I read it in school for the first time and it's really one of the rare books which left a mark. It's thought provoking and suspenseful and have I mentioned yet that a book plays an important role in it? If you haven't read it, I can strongly recommend it!!
ReplyDeleteHi! One of my favourite books is To Kill A Mockingbird because it's so wonderful and deep but also deceptively simple. And I just love it!
ReplyDeleteI like Persuasion by Jane Austen!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the international giveaway.
I loved The Little Prince! Have not yet read A Thousand leagues under the sun, maybe nows my chance?!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the giveaway, Nancy. Great choices!
ReplyDeleteI actually really loved The Death of Bees which you can win over at my blog. :-)
I'm almost ashamed to say that I've never read The Little Prince :( Insane right? Thanks so much for this giveaway and for a chance to win great books!
ReplyDeleteThe little prince is one I've reread basically my entire life, but I do not own it! It is so awesome, the first time I read it was when I was a child, but I keep on rereading it once in a while <3
ReplyDeleteThx for the giveaway xD
Wild, by Cheryl Strayed. After I finished it, I gave it to my mother who read it and passed it on to my grandmother. She then gave it to my godmother upon finishing. All three generations *loved* it, and that is rare! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourites is Jane Eyre, I think I will always hae special recollections of this story. Thank you for the giveaway!

I haven't read either of these books so thanks for the giveaway. One of my favourite books is The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. It follows a young girl who is taken from African, sold into slavery in the US, finds freedom in Canada, and ultimately returns to Africa. It's fascinating.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite novels is Bleak House by Charles Dickens. He's brilliant with having a host of characters, each as important as the next. I also love his snark and him hitting you over the head with a topic he feels strongly about. He's a genius.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! One of my favorite books is The Dolphin People by Torsten Krol, which is a literary adventure story set in the post-WWII Amazon.
ReplyDeletePride and Prejudice because it is a classic and so well written it will live in the hearts of readers forever!
ReplyDeleteI have many books of great literature merit that I like but to mention one I`ll go with two books by Victor Hugo - The Man Who Laughs and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. I`m not sure what makes people to fall in love with these books, but I guess it`s his style of writing and creation/development of characters. And probably because that usually the storylines of characters are kinda sad and tragic but in a very beautiful way.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the giveaway!
Have read & own these, so please don't add me to this giveaway, just here to say hi & to wish you a happy anniversary.

A day so happy.
Fog lifted early, I worked in the garden.
Hummingbirds were stopping over honeysuckle flowers.
There was no thing on earth I wanted to possess.
I knew no one worth my envying him.
Whatever evil I had suffered, I forgot.
To think that once I was the same man did not embarrass me.
In my body I felt no pain.
When straightening up, I saw the blue sea and sails.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's unique, creative, and very inspiring (for a writer). I only wish they hadn't made it a movie!

I love Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, because they are always mysterious and I never guess the ending.
ReplyDeleteThis year I read Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath for the first time. I was very impressed with his ability to capture human emotions and to manipulate the reader's emotions throughout the story.
ReplyDeleteI love 1984 by George Orwell. It's neat to go to it and compare what actually has come to pass.
ReplyDeleteEmile Zola is lately became one of my favorites, Germinal is one of his masterpieces, not only blunt but also beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLITTLE DORRIT by Charles Dickens is a favorite. Dickens writes characters that are unique & memorable. He has such an amazing sense of humor.

ReplyDeleteOh sorry, did not see the sign that I have to wait before I can see my own comment. So now I wrote twice the same ....... :( Sorry
ReplyDeleteCatcher in the Rye is one of the first books I read and bought on my own. I saw it a magazine review and was actually surprised that some schools offer this in their curricular and I actually like it. I usually hate "school books".
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites is The Lovely Bones because the book was so well written I could picture the tree and the field. Thanks for the chance.

Bleak House by Charles Dickens for the great characters - regnod(at)yahoo(d0t)com
ReplyDelete'Barnaby Rudge' by Charles Dickens because of the flavoursome characters: the compassionate hero is also the village idiot; and the villain only has one name. Happy anniversary, Nancy, and congrats to a year of great book blogging!
ReplyDeleteThe Sword of Honour trilogy by Evelyn Waugh because I think it captures some of teh absurdity of war as well as its sadness.
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Eyre: so romantic and yet so realistic.
