Cemetery, a poem by Marra PL. Lanot

As All Souls’ and All Saints’ Days are drawing near, here is a poem to reflect on:

Cemetery
By Marra PL. Lanot

And what remains are slabs
Of unchronicled thoughts of those
Left behind, the living who dare
Not recount the aches and bruises
Received when the dead were still
Undead.

         Beyond the stones,
Below the plot of earth, nothing
Rings, not even the rattling
Of bones.

         And the trees still stand
Like old men who have
Forgotten the lyrics of the love
Songs aired to the sky.

  1. I'll try to find more of her poems, even when the Internet holds scarce sources on Philippine literature, old poetry included. Thanks again for visiting my blog!

  2. Wow! The image of "slabs of unchronicled thought" is very moving.
